Ecuador is the 20th country to have qualified for the World Cup Brazil on the 15th of October 2013. The decisive match was against Chile which they actually lost! Chile won with 2-1. The reason why the World Cup 2014 Ecuador national team qualified anyway is because the goal difference is greater for Ecuador in comparison with Uruguay. Both countries have equal points, but the goal difference is in favour of Ecuador. Ecuador is the last CONMEBOL country which managed to directly qualify for the 2014 World Cup with Argentina, Colombia and Chile occupying the top spots.

2006 – Round of 16: With occupying the 2nd position in Group A, Ecuador reached the Round of 16 for the first and last time so far, but lost with 1-0 to England.

2002 – Group stage: Although Ecuador won against Croatia in Group G, Ecuador lost to Italy 2-0 and Mexico 2-1 and therefore finished last in the group.
