Mexico is the 31st country to have qualified for the World Cup Brazil on the 20th of November 2013. Mexico ended as number 4 of the CONCACAF qualifications, which meant the intercontinental play-offs had to be played. Their opponent was New Zealand, the number 1 OFC country which only played twice in a World Cup. Their first match basically said enough. The World Cup 2014 Mexico national team won with an impressive 5-1 score. Paul Aguilar, Raúl Jiménez, Oribe Peralta and Rafael Márquez were the goal scorers. In their 2nd match Mexico crushed New Zealand again with a 4-2 score this time. Oribe Peralta scored a hat-trick and Carlos Alberto Peña scored the 4th goal. With an impressive aggregate score of 9-3, Mexico survived the play-offs without breaking a sweat and qualified for the World Cup Brazil.
