World Cup 2014 Draw

The final draw was held on the 6th of December 3:00 local time (UTC−3) in Costa do Sauipe, Mata de São João in Bahia. The draw was presented by Brazilians Fernanda Lima and Rodrigo Hilbert. FIFA president Sepp Blatter and Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff made an appearance where a moment of silence was announced for Nelson Mandela .FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke conducted the draw.

The mascot Fuleco made an appearance and showed the world his samba skills. He was accompanied by former Brazilian star players Bebeto and Marta.

World Cup Brazil 2014 participants

Former star players Ronaldo and Pelé also made an appearance. 8 football stars who represented each of the countries that have previously won a World Cup accompanied Jérôme Valcke with the draw. Pelé was asked to be 1 of them but he declined. He feared to create bad luck for Brazil and the Brazilian team and didn’t want to be responsible for any bad outcomes. So the 8 football players were:

Cafu (Brazil), Fernando Hierro (Spain), Zinedine Zidane (France), Fabio Cannavaro (Italy), Lothar Matthaus (Germany), sir Geoff Hurst (England), Mario Kempes (Argentina) and Alcides Ghiggia (Uruguay). Yes, Alcided Ghiggia, the man himself who ‘silenced’ the Maracanã by scoring the 2-1 in the last match of the 1950 World Cup against Brazil!

This is how the draw worked:
