The 2014 World Cup officially kicked off yesterday in Arena de São Paulo in São Paulo! After many months we finally know the result of the first World Cup match Brazil against Croatia! Although it is the very first match, it consists of controversial decisions made by the referee Yuichi Nishimura.
To start with the first goal. Unfortunately for Brazilian defender Marcelo, he scored the very first World Cup goal in his own net. 1-0 for Croatia. Brazil immediately entered the attack mode and wanted to find the equalizer before half time. Neymar suceeded by scoring the first goal for Brazil. A nice distant shot it was, which entered the goal by hitting the post first.
The first half ended and showed a strong Croatian defence and a strong Brazilian attack despite only 1 goal was scored. In the second half it took 25 minutes before the second goal was scored. It was Fred who showed some great acting in the penalty area. Referee Yuichi Nishimura was convinced he was pushed by Croatian Dejan Lovren and gave a penalty to Brazil. Neymar scored despite the goalkeeper touched the ball, and the score was now 2-1. The Croatians were rightfully furious, but the goal stands.
20 minutes later in injury time, Oscar scored the final goal of the match. Because of a mistake in Croatian’s defense, Oscar took the ball and unexpectedly shot the ball quickly. Even the goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa did not expect that and was to late to stop the ball.
Brazil won 2014 World Cup’s first match and will play again on June 17 against Mexico in Fortaleza. Croatia’s next match will be on June 18 against Cameroon in Manaus.
